Review of the Queen Mary 2
Posted Wed, Mar 4th 2009, 13:26The Queen Mary 2 is rich in tradition and the décor echoes of the elegance and style of cruise liners from the past.
The Grand Lobby, the ship’s central gathering place, hosts several top name boutiques such as Hermes, Chopard, H. Stern and Harrods.
We were treated to lunch in the Britannia Restaurant. The décor of this two-level dining room is very tasteful and inviting. Our lunch was absolutely delicious. I had a perfectly prepared turbot with vegetables. The servers were very attentive and friendly.
From my walking tour of this ship, I was struck by the legacy of Cunard and sailing on ships of this caliber. The teak deck chairs on the promenade deck were organized exactingly and I could envision sitting while having tea and scones during an Atlantic crossing.
This is a great ship for those interested in personal improvement and learning. There is a fully stocked library, with beautiful wooden display cases holding thousands of books. The Illuminations Planetarium was the most amazing venue I have ever seen on a ship. Imagine participating in science and astronomy shows, lectures and movies. On the way to Illusions, there is a pathway called Maritime Quest, which displays artifacts and pictures and is really a museum of Cunard history.
On those colder days at sea, the Winter Garden is the perfect place to cozy up with a hot beverage surrounded by a floral décor.
There is definitely no mistaking the luxury that Queen Mary 2 provides. Itineraries include Trans-Atlantic Crossings, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Canada/New England and the Caribbean.
